1. Pal Joey: The Kim Novak Collection (1957)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I expected to dislike Pal Joey, but a number of factors - mainly Frank Sinatra's fine performance - won me over. I found it to offer a light but pleasant and charming experience. The DVD provides very good picture and perfectly adequate sound but lacks compelling supplements. Despite that last disappointment, Pal Joey will be greatly enjoyed by fans of m

2. Picnic: The Kim Novak Collection (1955)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I didn't find Picnic to be a terrible film, but it's a dated and not very compelling one. It made an awkward shift from the stage to the screen and just never really became involving. The DVD’s picture shows highs and lows that make it average in the end. The audio works quite well, but the set’s supplements don’t give us much. As a DVD, this is a decent

3. Vertigo: Collector's Edition (1958)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Vertigo definitely is effective, but something about it simply leaves me flat. Maybe it's because the film wasn't really what I expected. While it has some of those moments, it's not a really thrilling chiller ala Psycho. That's not bad, but even though I'd seen Vertigo years ago, I wasn't quite prepared for the route it would take. Starring James Stewar

5. Vertigo: Special Edition - Universal Legacy Series (1958)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: This marks the third DVD release of Vertigo, and it’s the best. However, it’s not significantly superior to the one that immediately preceded it. Those two offer similar visuals and identical audio, though the new one loses a mono mix. Otherwise, this one differs from its predecessor solely due to a few new extras. While those components have value, they

8. Vertigo [4K UHD] (1958)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Often regarded as Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest achievement, I admit Vertigo tends to leave me a little cold. However, I recognize that it offers a well-crafted tale with plenty of psychological depth and intrigue on display. Starring James Stewart, Kim Novak. Universal, $29.98, 9/7/2021.

10. The Matrix Reloaded [4k UHD] (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: It may not pack the innovative punch of its predecessor, but The Matrix Reloaded creates a powerful flick on its own. Inconsistent but ultimately satisfying, it leaves me wanting more and anxious for the final chapter in the trilogy. Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne. Warner, $41.99, 10/30/2018.
